Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut Inc. SLS empowers low-income people in Connecticut to obtain justice by providing tools to address their civil legal needs. SLS provides its clients with high volume brief or in-depth legal advice limited case intervention alternative referral services web-based assistance legal advice clinics pro bono direct representation and access to self-help legal educational services.

Programs

SLS operates an extensive pro bono program whereby volunteer attorneys in Connecticut provide free civil legal help to hundreds of individuals annually. The objective of this program is to leverage volunteers to increase SLS capacity to meet the need of our target population for free civil legal assistance and promote greater access to justice for those individuals and families living in poverty. This program operates several dynamic pro bono projects in which volunteers are provided with a variety of pro bono commitment options. The goal of this program is to empower clients to make informed decisions to resolve their legal problem follow through with the prescribed legal steps given them and achieve a long-term solution for improvement of their lives.

MEDICAL LEGAL PARTNERSHIPS CAN HELP REMOVE BARRIERS TO CARE AND ADDRESS THE DRIVERS OF POOR HEALTH FOR PATIENTS EXPERIENCING HOUSING ISSUES, DENIAL OF PUBLIC BENEFITS AND ISSUES ACCESSING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR MEDICAL CARE. FUNDS FROM CT HEALTH WILL SUPPORT: -COLLECTING DATA TO DETERMINE THE LEGAL NEEDS OF MALTA HOUSE PATIENTS -RESEARCHING AND OUTLINING THE KEY FEATURES OF A MEDICAL LEGAL PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN STATEWIDE LEGAL SERVICES AND MALTA HOUSE OF CARE -CREATING A ROADMAP FOR LAUNCHING THE PARTNERSHIP -IDENTIFYING RESOURCES TO ENSURE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE LEGAL PARTNERSHIP ONCE IT IS ESTABLISHED.
