Education - sct seeks to educate the public about the importance of preserving land for the future via various community events and awareness- generating activities. This year we put up a new storywalk book at our leggett property, which was designed to get families with young children out exploring the trails, following the story along the way. Also at leggett, with a generous grant from the alice eaton fund, we installed a bench to give families a place to sit. In april we sponsored a "big night" event, during which town residents showed up to safely escort amphibians across roads as they migrated to breeding grounds.
Land conservation and outreach - the trust acquires or facilitates acquisition of land in stow, ma, to preserve it as open space. Trust members work with land owners, local governments, and other land trusts to provide expertise in planning, organizing, and presenting cases for future land acquisitions or conservation restrictions. This year our land protection specialists advanced several potential land deal projects, which may come to closure in the next few years.
