Levante leadership institute: ten high school students from farmworker families in eastern north carolina participated in the levante leadership institute program. They received training, mentorship and tutoring. The program participants focused on learning about heat stress, higher education, and the farmworker justice movement. They made one campus visit to a north carolina university. The students also participated in a documentary workshop. This was the first year of returning to fully in-person meetings and workshops.

Education & advocacy - from the ground up: saf staff and interns conducted virtual and in-person presentations on issues ranging from child labor to food security. We had 35 partners for farmworker awareness week, and continued to build on the powerful influence of unions and student activism. We co-coordinated community events, both in person and virtually. Our cosecha fellowship program was on hiatus for the fy 2023-2024 as we review the program.

SAFS 2021-22 DOCUMENTARY PROJECT FOCUSES ON THE FUTURE OF FARM WORK. WE WILL PARTNER WITH FARMWORKERS IN RURAL AREAS OF NORTH CAROLINA TO COLLECT THEIR STORIES AND VISIONS FOR WHAT THE FUTURE OF FARM WORK SHOULD LOOK LIKE AND USE THIS WORK TO EDUCATE COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND ADVOCATE FOR IMPROVED CONDITIONS FOR WORKERS. AS FARMWORKERS HAVE BEEN A COMMUNITY THAT HAS BEEN SEVERELY IMPACTED BY COVID, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT STORIES OF FARMWORKERS RESILIENCY DURING COVID ARE LIFTED UP AND THAT THEIR VISION FOR THE FUTURE IS UNDERSTOOD. AS WE RECOVER FROM THE PANDEMIC, WE WILL REENGAGE WITH STUDENT AND FARMWORKER AUDIENCES IN PERSON AND BUILD ON THE NEW VIRTUAL WAYS WEVE DEVELOPED TO COMMUNICATE WITH OUR AUDIENCES.
