Mission
As a private non-profit human services and health care organization, telespond senior services inc. Provides a no closed doors approach to senior care. Since its inception in 1974, telespond has aimed to provide aging adults the support they need to maintain their independence, live with dignity, and remain healthy and safe in their own homes with their loving families. To meet the social and health needs of older adults in northeast pennsylvania telespond oversees five-programs which offer older adults volunteer work opportunities, adult day care, and home care coordination. Additionally, in 2023 telespond broke ground on the older adult advocacy center (oaac). The oaac will provide older adults experiencing housing insecurity due to abuse or neglect a transitional safe space that will support healing and stabilization. All programs are offered from telespond's facility in scranton, pa.

3 programs
The senior companion program is designed to help lackawanna county's older adults remain independent and in their homes as long as possible and encourage friendship and connection with other seniors in the community. The volunteers provide assistance with daily tasks, encouragement to remain active and connected, and watch for signs the client may need extra care. The senior companion program employs 66 senior volunteers and offers 100 clients companionship services.
The adult day center provides rehabilitative and recreational activities for older adults ages 60 and older in a clean and safe environment staffed by care attendants and nurses. Adult day center clients benefit from support with personal care and nutrition, physical exercises, and fun arts and music programming led by an experienced activities coordinator. Programs are designed to help older adults remain engaged and connected to their communities, feel less isolated, and improve cognition as well as mental and emotional health. The adult day center provides support to clients living in lackawanna county and surrounding areas.
Telespond began construction of the older adult advocacy center (oaac), which is slated to open its doors in 2025. The oaac will offer older adults experiencing housing insecurity due to abuse, neglect, or an unsafe environment a transitional safe space which will allow them to heal, stabilize and connect with community social services and health care partners. Telespond will work closely with local area agencies on aging to identify at risk older adults who would benefit from a stay at the oaac. The in-home personal care program provides non-medical in-home care services to help older adults maintain a safe and clean home-based environment, as well as provide caregiver support and respite. Our personal care attendants provide assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, and will also handle homemaking duties such as laundry and/or meal preparation.
