Promotion of public welfare - tspe sponsors engineers day on the hill, which is attended by about 40 members. The purpose of the event was to educate members of the tn general assembly on the impact of proposed legislation on the public health, safety, and welfare. In 2025, the event was cancelled due to winter weath and tspe sent information to legislators electronically. In addition, tspes contract advocate monitored and lobbied the state legislators on these issues throughout the legislative session. The executive director also attended and participated in meetings of the tn state board of architectural and engineering examiners.
Promotion of education - tspe and its chapters, in conjunction with the tn engineering foundation, sponsored mathcounts, a mathematics competition for students in grades 6-8, geared toward encouraging the study of and excellence in mathematics among middle school students. The program includes local and state competitions; the state winner participates in the national mathcounts. Tspe awarded college scholarships to engineering students in accredited programs and stem grants to middle school and high school programs. Tspe sponsored educational seminars and an annual meeting for the purpose of educating members.
