Mission

In 2023, the texas state aquarium institute for wildlife conservation took over and expanded upon the wildlife conservation efforts of the texas state aquarium association. The institute is engaged in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, species restoration work, wildlife conservation education, wildlife conservation research, and wildlife-related emergency management within a new state-of-the-art rescue facility.

The texas state aquarium institute for wildlife conservation's education activities - from field trips to summer camps to distance learning - promote inclusive and collaborative learning, foster stem exploration and discovery, and empower learners of all ages to reach their full potential. The institute's wildlife rescue on the road program, a traveling education program in which an animal rescue is simulated, reached more than 900 students across the state in 2024. Our summer camp program, seacamp, hosted 40 students and our student volunteer program, aquateens, had 38 participants in 2024.

The texas state aquarium institute for wildlife conservation's office of emergency management (oem) is dedicated to responding to wildlife-related emergencies and reducing risks to ensure continuous preparedness. The oem also manages the wildlife response operations center, the nation's first emergency operations center built to support wildlife response efforts in texas and along the texas gulf coast. In 2024, the oem hosted seminars on oil spill responses and harmful algal blooms and participated in several incident command exercises in cooperation with local industry and emergency responders including exxonmobil, gulf coast growth ventures, the port of corpus christi, and the corpus christi fire department.
