The Childrens Policy Cooperative Of Jefferson County

SAFECARE: Assisting infants and mothers with assessment, safe care plans and recovery support who are substance involved by focusing on their safety and well-being. In collaboration with Family Court, Child Protective Services, Recovery, Maternal & Child Health providers, care coordination and community partnerships help equip mothers to keep their families intact through support, services and resources. The daily operational functions for Jefferson and Calhoun Counties were transferred to ROSS Recovery Center effective January 5, 2024. In late 2023, SAFECare services were expanded to Mobile County through Lifelines Counseling of Mobile. During 2024, CPC partners with Lifelines Counseling to expand SAFECare services into Baldwin County. CPC retained fiscal control, policy and procedural control, partner support, and expansion of the program.

Campaign for 3rd Grade Level Reading: CPC continued to expand this program by placing a second children's book vending machine in the lobby of the Jefferson County Family Court - Bessemer location. By having a children's book vending machine at both family courthouses in Jefferson County, children of all ages are eligible to select one free book of their choice each time they visit, which they get to keep. While we primarily focus on younger children to promote reading on grade level by third grade, the program was expanded to included children of all ages.

General support and information to the community while conducting community-based assessment and analysis of the needs of children throughout Jefferson County, providing training and tools for advocacy and public policy monitoring and communication, and working together across disciplines to ensure safety for domestic violence victims, accountability for perpetrators, and to change the climate in the community to reduce domestic violence
