Mission
The City Tutors is NYC's educational subway: offering free, flexible tutoring and career mentoring built for historically underserved communities and open to all. Available year-round across all five boroughs, The City Tutors help people build skills, grow their networks, and chart their own paths-ensuring that no one is limited by where they start and that all can fully experience the opportunities New York has to offer.
Programs
1 program
The City Mentors Program blends self-paced 1:1 support (virtual by default) with hybrid events; people move between them as needed-some gather facts about industries and roles, others explore multiple interests, and those ready to move quickly focus on document development and interview practice. More than 1,000 volunteer mentors across industries provide this support. Since 2020, we've facilitated 12,000+ mentorship sessions and 250 events; about 60% of learners arrive without individualized professional-development access. After two sessions, over 50% of learners identify a target field or role and 65% set concrete next steps; after three sessions, 35% of job seekers report securing at least one interview. Mentorship engagements average about two sessions, with re-entry as needs evolve.
