The Dance Brigade A New Group From Wallflower Order

Youth Education: We engage approximately 320 youth weekly, ranging in age from 3 to 18, in comprehensive dance and performance programs. This includes two fully produced performances each year. Our Grrrl Brigade program, now 25 years old which focuses on girl/woman empowerment though dance, drumming, and community awareness. Grrrl Brigade serves 55 women-identified youth each year. This program offers several weekly tuition-free classes. Participants in this program benefit from multiple classes, performances, and community engagement opportunities.

Resident Dance Company: Dance Brigade is renowned for its innovative, content driven choreographies that are a high-energy blend of ballet, modern dance, jazz, song, text, sign language and explosive Taiko drumming. As a leading voice in the San Francisco Bay Area dance community, Dance Brigade regularly produces evening-length productions, most recently including Matchgirl (2024), Womens Song for Peace (2025), and Butterfly Effect (2020). These works reflect our commitment to pushing the boundaries of dance as an art form while maintaining a strong connection to the cultural and social issues that resonate with our audience. In fiscal year 2025, Dance Brigade had a very successful west coast tour of its Womens Song for Peace show.

Adult Education: Approximately 800 adults participate in our weekly classes, supported by a team of 22 experienced instructors. Our curriculum encompasses a diverse range of dance styles, including salsa, samba, contemporary, hip hop, taiko, and other African diaspora art forms, offering opportunities for both personal development and professional growth.
