Affordable housing refers to housing units that are affordable to those with a median household income or below, ensuring that residents do not spend more than 30% of their gross income on housing costs, including rent or mortgage payments and utilities. The primary goal of affordable housing projects is to prevent individuals and families from becoming cost-burdened, which can lead to financial instability and homelessness.
