The study of video games is a young, exciting and growing field. The university of chicago offers several courses focusing on video game studies. This grant provides support for the establishment of a video games/gaming ephemera collection comprised of unique and rare video games and gaming accessories and video game ephemera. The collection is being formed in connection with ongoing video game research and teaching, and the preservation of the cultural heritage, significance and impact of games through history. The collection will also enhance the "year of games" exhibits that are being planned across the university of chicago campus. Additionally, a faculty member will use gaming ephemera to teach a course on a specific game series, the different forms of media and its cultural impact.
This grant to the library provided support for the annual john crerar foundation science writing prize program.
