The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy.

LWVNC strengthens and connects the 14 Local Leagues across North Carolina through consistent communication shared resources and collaborative learning. We convene monthly Zoom meetings with Local League presidents to exchange updates identify emerging needs and align around voter service priorities. We also hosted the State Convention inviting up to six delegates from each of the 14 Leagues to participate in statewide decision-making and training. To further build leadership capacity LWVNC organized three regional meetings that brought together an average of 30 League leaders per session. These gatherings fostered skill development shared best practices and deepened relationships across the network. Local Leagues receive direct support from the LWVNC Communications Manager including assistance with media outreach event promotion through statewide platforms and networking opportunities for local communications leads. Customizable templates for social media letters to the editor and other earned media tools are available to help amplify voter education and advocacy messages within each community. LWVNC also maintains strong information flow through two statewide newsletters: one highlighting Local League initiatives to spark collaboration and shared learning and another providing updates on state-level priorities such as legislation litigation and voter engagement resources. Together these communications ensure every Local League stays informed connected and equipped to serve voters across North Carolina.
Redistricting Election Protection and Government Accountability | LWVNC led statewide training and education on new voting legislation voting procedures and registration drives. Educational videos printed materials and voting trinkets were developed designed printed and distributed by LWVNC to all local Leagues for the purposes of informing voters and motivating them to vote. LWVNC developed communications materials that could be personalized by members and local Leagues to focus on outreach in local communities. LWVNC also reached more that 30,000 voters with GOTV messaging through text banking. The Leagues work contributed to the removal of misleading polling information improved poll worker recruitment and direct intervention to address voter suppression and intimidation.
The Leagues goal of empowering voters was addressed with communications aimed at informing members and citizens about new election laws and procedures and legislative initiatives that affect how citizens vote and impact issues of importance to voters. Tools include two newsletters action alerts that contain direct steps for concerned citizens to take a Legislative Update to alert members and supporters of evolving legislation and monthly calls with local LWVs. The Leagues advocacy efforts resulted in a legal victory in the contested 2024 N.C. Supreme Court race protecting the integrity of the electoral process. LWVNC is also a plaintiff in litigation around the changing of Same Day Registration voting procedures which largely affect young voters and college students.
