Mchs is a community school established under the ohio revised code charter 3314, the school is a public institution and students enrolled in and attending the school are required to take proficiency tests and other examinations prescribed by law. In addition, there may be other requirements for students at the school that are prescribed by law. Students who have been excused from the compulsory attendance law for the purpose of home education as defined by the administrative code shall no longer by excused for that purpose upon their enrollment in a community school. The mahoning county high is a trauma-informed, dropout prevention and recovery community school in the state of ohio. THE MAHONING VALLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOL IS A TRAUMA-INFORMED SCHOOL THAT FOCUSES ON PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AND INTENSIVE CREDIT RECOVERY TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE MULTIPLE BARRIERS THAT STAND BETWEEN THEM AND THEIR GRADUATION GOALS. THE SCHOOL PROVIDES SERVICES THAT INCLUDE MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT. THE SCHOOL PLANS TO UTILIZE THE PROPERTIES THAT IT RECEIVED AS A DONATION FROM A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FORMER NEIL KENNEDY RECOVERY BOARD ON EMERY AVENUE TO EXPAND THESE SERVICES. THE PROPERTIES WILL SERVE AS A CHILD CARE CENTER FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE CHILDREN, A LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER AND A SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT EDUCATIONAL FACILITY. MVCS IS COMMITTED TO ENSURING STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO RESOURCES ON SITE AND THE ADDITION OF THESE PROPERTIES HAS ALLOWED THE SCHOOL TO GROW THE SERVICES SIGNIFICANTLY.
