Membership - founded in 1920, nctm is the world's largest mathematics education organization with 25,000 members and more than 200 affiliates throughout the united states and canada. Nctm members receive a wide range of resources related to the teaching and learning of mathematics from prekindergarten through higher education.
Publications and standards - principles and standards for school mathematics (2000) outlines the essential components of a high-quality school mathematics program and calls for all students to engage in more challenging mathematics. Curriculum focal points (2006) identifies three important topics at each grade level from pre-k12 and is the next step in implementing the standards. Principles to actions: ensuring mathematical success for all (2015) describes the principles and actions that are essential for a high-quality mathematics education for all students. Nctm's three-book series, catalyzing change, identifies the vexing issues that have long plagued mathematics education in pre-k and elementary grades, middle school, and high school. High school mathematics reimagined, revitalized, and relevant (2024) provides a thoughtful and practical guide for educators, school district leaders, and policymakers to rethink and restructure high school mathematics by emphasizing the development of mathematical and statistical processes. Nctm also publishes three peer-reviewed journals covering all grade bands.
