Mission
The Thirteen is a professional choir and orchestra with a mission to inspire the soul to sing, move the heart to empathy, and build community, all through groundbreaking musical performance: through concerts, workshops, education outreach, recordings, and music commissions.

Recordings: In April 2024 The Thirteen released a commercial recording of Monteverdi: The 'Lost' Vespers of 1650,' produced under the Acis Label, a DC-based independent classical music recording label. This recording was recorded at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America, in Washington, D.C., in October 2023, following our public performances of this program. Note that our recording activity also benefits from expenses associated above and below with concerts and commissions.
Commissioning and New Works: The Thirteen remains committed to expanding the canon of choral music. Several performances highlighted The Thirteen's championing of recent works, in particular our May program which featured our world premiere commission from Hilary Purrington, 'the dark and marvelous way." Following our public performances, the Thirteen commercially recorded this program (together with works by Poulenc and Jeffrey Van), to be released commercially in 2025. Note that our commissioning and new works activity also benefits from expenses associated above with concerts and recordings.
