Mission

Protect and advance the rights and best interests of immigrant children.

Programs

2 programs

Policy Advocacy-The Organizations policy goal is to change the immigration system so that children in immigration proceedings are recognized as children, and each childs wishes and best interests are considered in every decision. The Organization conducts policy advocacy at the national level with Congress and federal agencies - to incorporate the best interests of the child standard into practice, policy and immigration law. Areas of focus include childrens right to be with family; childrens safety in and release from government custody; childrens access to fair proceedings and to permanency through immigration benefits; and the centering of childrens voices in public narratives.

Expenses: $1.0M

Technical Assistance- The Organizations Technical Assistance Program advances the rights and best interests of immigrant children involved in child welfare and other state court systems by offering intersectional expertise and critical resources to childrens advocates and services providers. The Organization does this through case consultations on issues ranging from kinship placement to international family reunifications; training for child welfare stakeholders; and through legal partnerships that include amicus curiae briefs, identifying expert witnesses, and identifying representation for children and families.

THEIR GOAL IS TO ENSURE THAT WHEREVER CHILDREN LAND, THEY WILL BE SAFE. THE YOUNG CENTERS MANAGING ATTORNEY IN LOS ANGELES ALSO ADVOCATE FOR VIRTUAL HOME SAFETY ASSESSMENT, IN LIEU OF WAITING MONTHS TO SCHEDULE THE IN-PERSON VISIT REQUIRED BY ORR PRIOR TO A CHILDS RELEASE TO A SPONSOR.
