Religious freedom - freedom of religion, conscience, and belief is a vital human rights issue from which other fundamental rights derive, including freedom of speech, association, and assembly. This fundamental right is under enormous assault with an estimated 70% of the world's population living in countries that significantly restrict this basic right. Through our religious freedom programming which includes, but is not limited to, our solidarity sabbath initiative, internet freedom and the promotion and protection of this fundamental right through support of and participation in global conferences and panels with world leaders and other stake holders we seek to expand access to this fundamental human right across the globe.
The lantos congressional fellowship program gives outstanding students and young professionals from around the world the opportunity to serve fellowships at the united states congress. Participants are given an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the role of human rights in american legislative process and provide the u.s. Congress with an international perspective on human rights and to ensure that human rights remain an important focus of the congressional legislative agenda.
Engagement in international human rights initiatives that support our mission, which include, but are not limited to: freedom of religion, conscience, and belief, combatting anti-semitism and holocaust denial around the world, rule of law, advancing the cause of internet freedom globally, fighting human rights abuses in russia and china, and supporting human rights and minority rights in hungary.
