Hamline university provides educational services to its students and includes such operating expenses as admissions, financial aid, administration, registrar activities, and activities that contribute to students' emotional and physical well-being and to their intellectual, cultural, and social development outside the context of the formal instructional program.

Hamline university also provides auxiliary services to students in relation to their operations. These services may charge a fee to students that is related to, although not necessarily equal to, the cost of providing the service. Examples are residence halls, dining services, student health services, and the campus bookstore.

Hamline university provides academic support to its students through support services that are an integral part of the university's primary mission of instruction. This includes expenses for libraries, galleries, audio/visual services, academic development, academic computing support, course and curriculum development, and academic administration. The revenue includes contracts.
