Mission

The tubman center for health & freedom addresses health and wellness from both systemic and clinical approaches. By practicing medicine from the intersection of health and freedom, we address both the health of our patients as well as the factors that determine their health. Tubman health provides primary and preventative care, community resources, social services, political education and advocacy.

Programs

3 programs

Research - the community health research institute (chri) at the tubman center for health & freedom implements the best of community-directed research methods to evaluate and generate insights for our healthcare model, while creating recommendations for the field of public health and policymakers. Chri organizes research ambassadors to guide our work and ensure community ownership. Chri also offers youth research fellowships to support the next generation of public health researchers, with a focus on mental health and wellbeing.

Expenses: $188K

Policy & community advocacy - tubman health's policy team works closely with our research and clinical teams to identify community-generated solutions for health. We educate policymakers at all levels of government about approaches that support the health of marginalized communities - including championing the work of our community partners. We offer organizing and advocacy training to our partners, including introducing youth to health care policy and advocacy, and have built strong partnerships to advance equity- and justice-focused health policies.

Expenses: $94K

Other programs including aahb, ahshay. Aahb (african american health board) has worked collectively to achieve health equity and justice by impacting policy, creating systems change, and demanding institutional accountability. They advocate for antiracists, accessible and community centered approaches to wellbeing. Ahshay (allies in healthier systems health and abundance in youth) has a mission to build up the fortifiers of hope and health for youth and unbuild the fortifications of youth incarceration through efforts of decommissioning youth detention centers.
