Advocacy & Legislation-- We drafted and advanced a bill to regulate and limit harmful breeding practices, which successfully reached committee review.--Public protests, targeted communication with city and county officials, and community education aided in the closure of certain retail pet stores that sell dogs from puppy mills, many of which have serious health issues unknown to the buyer.--Worked in close partnership with the Pima County Sheriff's Department, which assigned additional investigators to address animal cruelty cases.--See Schedule O for additional accomplishments
Community Education--Created our first education team--Educated 300 school children on proper dog handling, safety, and the humane treatment of animals--Expanded outreach to additional schools and youth programs--Outreach to several churches to educate youth on humane animal treatment--Held several events to bring community together and educate on animal issues.
Rescue Partner and Match Making Program--Formed relationships with local animal rescue agencies--Encourage people wanting dogs to rescue rather than purchase--Placed twelve rescue dogs with new loving families
