Park service projects including design and installation and maintenance of innovative forested rain garden to treat 1 acre impervious parking lot and provide shade, historic building restorations, and trail preservation. Work accomplished by volunteers.

Hold photo and illustration contest whose entries feature activities, historic structures, plants and animals within William B. Umstead State Park. The winners are displays in an exhibit in the Visitor Center and annual park calendar. The opening of the Visitor Center exhibit is concurrent with an award ceremony for the winners. The winners are also featured in an annual photo calendar.

Invasive plant programs include assisting the Park Ranger and staff with controlling invasives within the Park as well as holding native plant sales to encourage the community to control invasives and plant native perennial flowers, shrubs and trees.
