Mission
To develop, extend and promote use of various standards, data, and open source software libraries which specify the representation of text in modern software. These offerings allow data to be shared across multiple platforms, languages and countries without corruption. These specifications and software libraries form the foundation for software internationalization in all major operating systems, search engines, applications, and the web.

Utc - the world relies on digital communications, which consists of nearly 150,000 characters across thousands of languages and scripts. Each character-letter, symbol, emoji, and function-is represented by a unique code that dictates how it behaves in the world's diverse writing systems. The unicode standard enables billions of people across the globe to seamlessly communicate with one other across platforms and devices.the unicode technical committee (utc) collaborates with linguists, educators, academics, software programmers, internationalization experts, and others in global organizations to oversee, define, modify, and approve the specifications and data that allow any computer, smartphone, or device to consistently display text in the languages of the world. 2024 highlightstransitioned to html for unicode standard yielding better generation, discovery, and accessupdated process for encoding: separate integration of proposals and integrated build/testreleased unicode 16.0
International components for unicode (icu) is the way software developers implement internationalization operations. It is a trusted and widely used set of libraries in c/c++ and java programming languages. Developers use icu to facilitate multilingual software, ensuring encoded text can be universally interchanged, that dates and numbers are formatted to local customs, and that text messages conform to native grammar rules.for more than 25 years, icu has been built into every operating system and browser. Yet, as software is ever evolving, the icu committee is responsible for considering future requests and investigating any weaknesses and bugs. 2024 icu highlightsupdated to unicode 16 characters, data, and algorithmsin sync with cldr locale datamodernized c/j apis for ease of use, simpler developmentimproved memory use, performance, securitymessage format 2.0 tech preview

The second unicode technology workshop supported in-person community building amongst students, young professionals, and internationalization experts and enthusiasts around the unicode technology that makes software work for billions of people. The event included two tracks with more than 20 sessions, including workshops, seminars, free-form discussions, and lightning talks centered around i18n libraries, locale data frameworks, globalization tooling, localization pipelines, input methods, and text rendering. For the first time, the vent also included case studies. 100% of survey respondents said they would recommend a unicode event to others.
