In 2024, united solar initiative, a global energy access nonprofit project developer, began work on this project in municipality san sebastian coatan a women's hospital with the support of healthcare ngo funding partner impact global health alliance (formerly curamericas global) and microgrid technology provider schneider electric. This system will provides backup power to critical loads at the birthing center which incurs weekly power outages. In 2024 an rfp was issued and a contractor was contracted for this installation. Equipment has been procured and the project will be constructed in early 2025.
