Mission

The Panhellenic Association was founded at the University of Kansas with the purpose of increasing the influence of sororities in college life, improving the relationships between the members of different chapters, and ensuring dignified methods of recruiting, pledging, and initiation.

Programs

4 programs

Raise funds for philanthropy: The University of Kansas Panhellenic Association has partnered with the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation. Circle of Sisterhood is an organization that works to remove educational barriers for girls and women facing poverty and oppression. KU Panhellenic has 2 Philanthropy events each year to support this organization. These events are marketed towards all of the Sorority and Fraternity Life Community on campus. All proceeds of these events are donated to Circle of Sisterhood directly. The Panhellenic Council also has various events throughout the year that support the organization such as percentage nights, t-shirt sales, and tabling on campus.

Expenses: $38K

Facilitate and plan formal recruitment: Formal recruitment is an event that occurs once a year and is a chance for all organizations to recruit new members into their organization. This event includes coordinating the schedules of about 2,000 members and 600 participants. Step one includes creating and distributing marketing material, and hosting 2-4 informational sessions to get individuals to sign up for the process. The next step is to facilitate registration and gather information from all registrants. There is communication and education provided to these individuals prior to their participation in the process. Officers also create the week-long schedule that all organizations and registrants participate in. The week-long event includes coordinating travel for participants, guiding individuals through the process and monitoring the organizations in their process.

Expenses: $24K

Govern over 11 organizations: Each organization has officers that support the day-to-day operations of their individual group. The officers of the Panhellenic Association provide guidance through monthly meetings to each of the organization's officers. They are also tasked with providing resources, training and advice to these groups.

Expenses: $15K

Community Service/ Civic engagement: All members of the Panhellenic community are required to perform 15 service hours per semester. These hours are completed in Douglas County and are approved by Panhellenic's Director of Philanthropy and Community Service. Members are encouraged to complete more hours and give back to the Lawrence community. Most chapters also have community service events that members can participate in to give back to the chapter's philanthropy.
