Mission

Upstream prevention is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code. No part of the net earnings of the corporation shall inure to the benefit of, or shall be distributable to its members, trustees, officers, or other private persons, except that the corporation shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth hereof. Upstream prevention seeks to support systems-level changes to promote public health, specifically related to the prevention and reduction of youth substance use, improved mental health, and creating an environment conducive to healthy behaviors for all citizens.

Evaluation support - upstream supports local community coalitions in their prevention/systems-change effort by providing support for evaluation activities. To support this effort program supplies and staff time are expended. Evaluation efforts support multiple coalitions in the area.

Community activities (outside of coalitions) - upstream supports community awareness efforts and training/educational programs to increase positive mental health, reduce substance use, and prevent suicide. Efforts are targeted at the entire county population.
