Mission
Uptown Gay & Lesbian Alliance is a charitable, educational and public service organization in NE Los Angeles. Founded in 1983 after the murder of a local gay man, UGLA provides visibility and support systems for the LGBTQ+ community through community-based programs and events.
Programs
2 programs
The Uptown Gay and Lesbian Alliances third and normally robust program is member support where we fund monthly pot-luck mixers, plan outings which may involve supplying transportation, take part in the Los Angeles Philharmonic outreach, care and contact with members undergoing health issues, grief, isolation, etc.
The Uptown Gay and Lesbian Alliances educational component also involves community outreach to enhance our visibility in the community. We publish a monthly newsletter, support community art projects, festivals, clean-ups, engage with Neighborhood Councils, take out and pay for memberships in many neighborhood organizations, and pay for advertising in local newspapers and event programs.
