The mission of the urban league of eastern massachusetts is to enable adults in eastern ma to overcome racial, social barriers, economic inequities, sexual and domestic violence to employment and economic development opportunities. For over 100 years, ulem's programs and services have given hope to participants and made a lasting, impactful statement in the community. It is a member of the national urban league, inc. (nul) and a member of the united way of massachusetts bay.

Domestic and sexual violence project the domestic and sexual violence project is a culturally specific services program designed to improve outcomes for african american domestic and sexual violence victims/survivors and their families. The project's ovw objectives include: "delivering in-depth domestic violence awareness programs to the community "engaging with church leadership to provide training, education, and support for victims/survivors. "providing technical assistance to other ovw funded programs around the country.

Professional skills and services programs msimbo ulem coding academy msimbo coding academy, named after the swahili word for "code," reflects the urban league of eastern massachusetts' (ulem) dedication to fostering culture, opportunity, and economic empowerment through technology. This 20 -week intensive program equips adults with essential programming skills, paving the way for successful careers in the competitive tech industry. Msimbo recently achieved a 100% completion rate, with all qualified students graduating. Alumni engagement remains strong, with three former students volunteering to support the program and four securing roles in tech and tech-adjacent fields-one even launching a startup based on their msimbo project. Demonstrating the program's impact, current students developed two ai-powered applications: boxrabbit, designed to streamline the moving process, and chef, which curates personalized recipes based on dietary preferences. Nextlevel mbe the nextlevel mbe program is a 13-week accelerator designed for bipoc entrepreneurs with over 150,000 in annual revenue, aimed at helping them strategically scale their businesses. Powered by interise, a national nonprofit known for its impactful curriculum, the program focuses on shifting business owners from working in their businesses to working on them, fostering growth and long-term sustainability. Participants from 13 gateway cities in massachusetts engage in rigorous, hands-on instruction, gaining vital tools in areas such as financial management, strategic planning, and marketing. Over 500 businesses have benefitted from interise's expertise, which has helped them create an average of 7.2 net new jobs per business and increase revenues by 42%. Nul urban tech jobs program 2.0 the urban tech jobs 2.0 (utjp) program provided industry-recognized training and career pathways in hvac&r technology and automotive technology, equipping participants with the skills needed for high-demand technical careers. Through a 50,000 scholarship fund, the program supported 37 learners, offering financial assistance ranging from 300 to 3,000 to cover training costs. In partnership with franklin cummings tech, utjp 2.0 successfully removed barriers to education by providing hands-on training, certification opportunities, and direct job placement support. Youth opportunity developing achievers (yoda) the yoda program, in collaboration with national urban league's project ready, provided students in grades 6-12 with hands-on training in drones, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and other steam fields, equipping them with essential technical and academic skills. Through career exploration and guest speakers, students gained exposure to real-world opportunities, expanding their knowledge and interest in steam careers. The program also emphasized 21st-century skills such as perseverance, critical thinking, and collaboration, fostering both personal and academic growth. By combining innovative learning experiences with industry insights, yoda and project ready helped students build confidence and prepare for future success in steam fields. Summer earn & learn the summer learn and earn internship program is designed to empower youth by providing leadership development, mentorship, and economic opportunities that inspire ambition and support their journey toward reaching their full potential. Over the course of the program, 70 young people participated in a series of career-focused workshops and leadership sessions, including hands-on learning about the electrical field with the international brotherhood of electrical workers and engaging in civic participation activities. This experience not only equips students with valuable skills but also fosters a sense of community responsibility, ensuring that each participant benefits both personally and professionally
