To reduce the progression of alcohol and other drug abuse in the african american community, particularly in the neighborhoods with disproportionately at-risk populations such as public and low-income housing

Prevention services - building dreams is a youth development prevention program designed to involve positive role models in the lives of at-risk youth and to promote positive cultural lifestyles. It is an after-school program designed to promote growth, learning, and character building. Educational sessions are provided in the areas of alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention. During group discussions, youth learn life skills that include effective communication, conflict resolution, anger management, values clarification, decision making and goal setting. Developmental enrichment activities include field trips, college tours, community service, african dance and drumming, summer camp, jewelry making, computer training and other positive activities.
