We have a specific focus on prevention and making resources accessible to vulnerable populations and communities. The wylie scholar award and the collaborative patient-centered research award provide career research grants that advance innovation in vascular research. The wylie scholar award is granted to outstanding young vascular surgeon-scientists who combine active patient care with academic research. The award supports crucial patient-centered research that enables them to compete for future research funding. Wylie scholars become north america's world-class vascular surgeon-scientists; many are now chiefs at major academic centers, prominent leaders in the field. Since 1996, we've supported 25 surgeon-scientists at 16 institutions around the country who are transforming patient care. The average return on investment for follow-on research funding is 30:1. The collaborative patient centered research award provides support for projects that offer innovative approaches with direct patient impact and are multi-institutional and responsive to the priorities identified at our annual vascular health innovation summit.
