Cm/interpretation/training program the alliance provides direct support to afghans navigating the challenges of everyday life and state or federal benefits. This primarily includes assistance with medical or dental appointments, accessing medicaid or health insurance, and referring afghans to specific service providers. The alliance provides interpretation assistance to the afghan community for various appointments, including immigration proceedings. Afghan program officers speak pashto, dari, and english.

Driving program since the launch of the alliance, we have acquired a drivers education vehicle and supported afghans in obtaining access to driving lessons and drivers licenses. Driving instruction is provided in pashto, dari, or english. For several afghan women, the driving program offers a first-time opportunity behind the wheel as well as newfound independence and the ability to secure a good-paying job, access groceries and appointments, as well as transportation for children. Driving lessons are currently offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Other (includes housing, legal & ell) the alliance provides afghan clients with pro bono legal services to assist in safely navigating the u.s. Immigration system. The alliance supports clients with a variety of services including assistance with siv applications, adjustment of status, applying for asylum, family reunification, or other immigration legal matters. The alliance supports afghan clients in finding appropriate permanent housing. The process includes searching for apartments, communicating with landlords, executing leases, and moving in. The alliance also provides housing assistance to eligible individuals and families. The alliance also provides english language lessons once per week to small groups of clients so that they can more easily communicate in everyday situations.
