Employment: employment programs include resume writing, self-marketing, and interview skills. Firms in the vit employer coalition send recruiters and hiring managers to events to evaluate and recruit veterans. Vit creates the environment where in-person interviews and reviews of resumes take place, bypassing electronic sorting and filtering. Military experience is properly considered during the interview and hiring processes. Vit organizes employer meetups, networking events, and informal gatherings that grant veterans premium access to employers during their job search. Veterans get direct feedback and hiring managers find the best/most qualified job candidates. A new online mentorship program was also launched in 2017, further enabling veterans to share expertise and experience. An additional focus was added in 2019 for women and military spouses.
Entrepreneurship: for veterans who aspire to start their own business, vit sponsors programs like hackathons, pitch events, discussions with prominent tech leaders, and representatives of the venture capital community. Programs on the entrepreneurship track include seminars on design thinking, business law basics, lean startup, product design and business strategy. Entrepreneur bootcamps address all facets of building a company and support other vit courses that convey critical aspects of startups, i.e. Financing and pitching to investors. Entrepreneurs who completed vit programs have been recognized nationally for new inventions and products.
