The blue flag program works to achieve environmentally-friendly sustainable development at beaches and marinas by ensuring that approved facilities adhere to strict water quality standards, provide environmental education and information, meet environmental management and public safety criteria, and provide other services. The blue flag program includes environmental education and information for the public, decision makers and tourism operators.

Czm flood risk education program engaged the area smith bay community and other public and private stakeholders in characterizing the conditions and suggesting solutions to the stormwater and nps pollution problems in the smith bay and water bay watershed. The flood education materials from this program are being utilized by 6 usvi high schools that are engaged in a disaster risk reduction management program, reaching about 150 students while the teacher evaluation of materials was completed in feb 2019. All the educational materials have been compiled and cataloged for ease of access for teachers

In the past, east has sponsored hikes, whale watches, star-gazing parties, and beach clean-ups.
