Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation

Educate: VBCF serves as a statewide information and resource clearinghouse on breast cancer early detection, diagnosis, treatment, research, legislation and survivorship. With the help of our volunteer network,our Breast Cancer is More Than a Pink Ribbon educational campaign distributed more than 60,000 free English and Spanish Breast Health Basics brochures and door hanger cards in local communities. Our VBCF.org website includes local, state, and national resource links to Find Help; Learn More about VBCF's Programs; and Ways to Take Action, with more than 95,000 unique views to our website this year. VBCF staff and volunteers attended 40 local speaking engagements and hosted educational tables this year sharing breast health information with thousands of attendees.

Advocate: VBCF pursues long-term policy change strategies to improve breast cancer public policy, coordinating state and federal action to educate our elected officials. We offer annual scholarships to train volunteer advocates at national breast cancer conferences. At the state level, VBCF has worked to educate legislators on a state bill to ensure affordable access to diagnostic breast cancer care as well as legislative improvements for prescription affordability, public health access to care, and paid medical leave. At the national level, VBCF supports improvements to federal public health policies,including the Lymphedema Treatment Act, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act, and the Dept of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program that has brought $51 million to Virginia researchers since 1993.
