Washington Wild

Wildlands defense - in 2024, wa wild coordinated 13 sign-on letters signed by more than 780 elected officials, local businesses and conservation, recreation and wildlife groups defending washington's wild places from threats including mining, unsustainable old-growth logging, military overflights, unmaintained roads and culverts, new dam construction, and other development. Additionally wa wild joined the coalition of nearly 600 tribes and local stakeholders to oppose i-2117, an initiative that sought to repeal washington's climate commitment act, helping to defend one of the most progressive climate laws ever passed by a state legislature.

Outreach & education - in 2024, wa wild continued to educate and mobilize washington residents around wildlands and waters issues. Wa wild held 34 community engagement and outreach events with 2,300 event attendees. Wa wild generated 12 action alerts resulting in more than 1,900 messages to decision makers to support salmon recovery, protect the public lands rule, legislative protections on the olympic peninsula, trust land transfer and spokane's thorpe natural area. Wa wild also launched a pilot program of the wild lands & waters youth explorer booklet program, reaching 500 kids, to encourage youth to explore their wild places. Wa wild partnered with this is indian country to host a teacher training workshop at the tulalip tribes on a "tribes and climate change" curriculum as part of the indigenous climate project.
