To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Scouts can earn two types of awards. The first is merit badges, which recognize the completion of a specific skill, such as camping. The second is rank advancement, which requires a Scout to demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of skills. In addition to mastering these skills, rank advancement also involves earning a set number of merit badges.

One activity that the scouts participate in is the monthly weekend camping trip. One purpose these camping trips helps the scout to help with rank advancement and an opportunity to work towards merit badges. These camping trips may also provide an educational experience. Examples of this activity includes the Kennedy Space Center and the Navy Seal Museum.
