Teaming up for health outcomes, a four-year coalition initiative, was launched in 2021 with support from the blue cross blue shield of sc foundation, an independent licensee of the blue cross and blue shield association. The initiative is a joint effort with the sc office of rural health to help urban and rural coalitions improve population health by providing funding opportunities that focus on training, coaching, capacity building, and healthy eating active living improvement projects.

Wholespire has an agreement with the sc department of public health (dph) division of nutrition, physical activity and obesity prevention supporting the expansion of collective impact efforts to unify and mobilize healthy eating and active living efforts that create equitable opportunities for all south carolinians to achieve a healthy weight. As such, wholespire is a co-lead, with dhec, for the healthy palmetto leadership council and administers funding agreements with and provides oversight to state-level healthy eating, active living, or healthy weight initiatives, identified by the healthy palmetto leadership council.wholespire provides training and communication on the statewide obesity recommendations, current progress, and potential improvements for state and local stakeholders. Wholespire also administers the healthy young people empowerment (hype) project and provides funding, training, and technical assistance to hype teams in each fo the local communities chosen to participate in the sc office of rural health healthy eating, active living, and healthy weight efforts.

Growing local sc, a usda grant wholespire manages growing local sc working closely with contracted project managers for the three-year grant. Growing local sc is an initiative of the south carolina food policy council focused on building a network of organizations and individuals to support south carolina in getting food from farms and gardens to the table. The goal of the project is to create a cross-sector local food system network aspiring to cultivate a thriving, equitable, inclusive, resilient, and just food economy providing access to healthy food for all.
