Mission
The purposes of the Wild Nature Institute are to conduct scientific research on at-risk wildlife species and their habitats, advocate for their protection, and educate the public about the need to preserve wild nature.
Programs

Celebrating Africa's Giants. Conducted 54 classroom visits at 18 schools to teach ecology and conservation to a total of at least 1161 Tanzanian schoolchildren. Conducted 4 Tanzanian teacher training workshops with 58 participants. Did 5 school trips to Tarangire National Park with 117 Tanzanian schoolchildren. Maintained tree nurseries at 2 Tanzanian schools and planted 26,000 trees in the local community. Celebrated World Giraffe Week with more than 540 Tanzanian children and teachers from 5 primary schools. Took 35 Tanzanian schoolchildren and 3 teachers to deliver thank-you letters to park rangers at Tarangire National Park to thank them for safeguarding wild animals including giraffes. Organized and hosted a Giraffe Bonanza with more than 1,400 Tanzanian children and teachers from 3 secondary schools around Tarangire, with information booths about wildlife, water filtration, and other environmental materials; entertained the students with dancers, comedians, singers, and games with prizes. Organized a Snake Education Blitz with 1,694 children from 5 primary schools to learn about snake ecology and identification, how to avoid conflicts with snakes, and what to do if bitten.
Armonk2Africa/Food4Thought. Implemented a pen pal exchange and school lunch program at Esilalei Primary School comprised of under-served children. Provided free lunch for all 603 enrolled students every school day from August through December.
