Mission

We bring kids outside to learn and grow together, transforming summer into a season of learning, youth development, and outdoor adventure for low-income Kansas City area youth.

Programs

2 programs

The summer camp program is Wildwoods signature program for girls and boys ages 8 to 14. Ages 14 to 17 attend leadership camp. The program offers children a wide variety of activities to choose from in a noncompetitive environment. Three key learning experiences: overcoming challenges, applying science, and building community provided youth development opportunities. Nine essential outcomes are achieved for campers including increased problem solving skills, and an interest in exploration and friendship skills. In 2024, Wildwood served over 600 youth for day and overnight camps.

Expenses: $415K

The outdoor school program is a one to three day program that provides unforgettable experiential learning for students from the Kansas City area. Students are joined by their teachers and parents, who stay with them in their cabins and help lead activities. The outdoors is the classroom, and the forest, pond, and meadows are their laboratory, learning about basic subjects like language arts, ecology, math, geology, and history. Nature awakens a curiosity and appreciation for the interrelationships of the inhabitants and their habitat supported by this beautiful, natural 150 acre facility. In 2024, Wildwood provided school field trips for 2,500 youth.
