Mission
The williams fund was started by a teacher at old rochester regional high school in mattapoisett, ma to meet varying needs of students. Because teachers are often aware of unmet needs, the fund was established to provide confidential financial support to high school students. The needs are identified by the school social workers, the school nurse, administrators, faculty and staff. Most often the support is in the form of gift cards for groceries and clothing preceding the holidays as well as for unexpected crises. For example, funds have been provided to students (and families) for necessities such as student laptop repair, oil deliveries and blankets. Historically, the fund was very small, and monies came from concerned adults in school donating to a need as it arose. In 2021, the william's fund applied for and received 501(c)(3) status and the goal of more focused fundraising given the growing needs of students.
