Mission

The mission of the wisconsin woodland owners association is to conserve and enhance the private woodlands of the state through the following actions: sustainably manage our woodlands with informed management plans that utilize best silviculture practices; assist private landowners in achieving their management goals by connecting them with natural resource professionals and fellow woodland owners; educate the public on the value of woodlands for economic, environmental, recreational, and wildlife habitat purposes. These actions will ensure future generations can enjoy the natural beauty and benefits of our woodlands. Our vision is to be the "go-to" organization to assist woodland owners in achieving their sustainable forestry goals. Silviculture - the care and development of forests in order to obtain a product or provide a benefit.

Programs

3 programs

The organization holds a 4 day educational annual meeting for our members. The meeting included tours of forest industries, archeological and cultural sites, a tree farm, convervancy property to learn more about bird habitat and prescribed fire. Member presentations included recovery from a wind storm, panel of women in natural resources, and options after mature pine is harvested. Keynote was the wi dnr secretary designee on partnering with private woodland owners. Concurrent sessions included transferring your land to the next generation, marketing your timber, mapping applications for woodland owners, forestry for the birds - maximizing diversity and health in your woods. Field day session included dealing with woodland emergencies, timber harvesting after a storm, tree identification, creating trails on your woodlands, improving wildlife habitat and woodland legacy.

Association awarded one 5,000 forestry leader scholarships for a forestry student attending the university of wi-stevens point.

Communicate with members regularly using our weekly learn something educational topics and member newsletters, website, and facebook to inform members of educational experiences and landowner resources to assist them in caring for their woodlands.
