The molly bush silver lady fund of the woman's cancer association of the university of miami (wca) was established in 1963 to financially assist needy oncology patients undergoing treatment at sylvester comprehensive cancer center and university of miami hospital. Recipients are identified and referred by social services at these facilities and patients are awarded funds up to $600 with a budget of $3,000 a month. These funds are administered to help with various needs such as emergency housing, transportation, medicines and supplements, childcare and medical emergency copayments. Currently, wca is the only agency able to directly assist these patients. Donations for the silver lady fund are collected from wca members throughout the year. The two chapters, barton ravlin and heidi hewes, raise fund at events called "grape therapy with an educational twist." here doctors share about their research in a social gathering, and funds raised goes to the silver lady fund. Barton ravlin established a zoom "bingo night" to raise emergency funds to supplement the silver lady fund to support cancer research patients in need of assistance.
The woman's cancer association of the university of miami (wca) owns and operates a thrift store called bargain box. The thrift store is managed, owned, and operated by the wca. Donations are brought to the store and sold. Items include clothing, shoes, handbags, hats, household goods, small appliances, collectibles, art, furniture, and miscellaneous items.
