Mission
To advance women's empowerment and gender equality to tackle climate change, food insecurity and poverty within enabling environments. WOCAN strengthens capacities of organizations and individuals for gender integration and leadership. It owns and maintains the W+ Standard to measure, quantify, certify and monetize women's empowerment benefits within projects, generating revenue for women's groups and organizations.

Training:WOCAN provided training in the W+ Standard to staff of the Rainforest Alliance and DGM project supported by the World Bank Mexico office. WOCAN has trained 6 people as W+ Apprentices, to eventually become W+ Experts. Two of these women are in Latin America, 3 are in Central and West Africa , one is in the US and one is in New Zealand.. They all successfully completed the online training course on the W+ Standard available to gender and Monitoring and Evaluation experts around the world.
Research:WOCAN co-authored a World Bank published brief, FOLUR Practical Note: A Crack in the Ceiling: Revealing Outcomes for Women's Leadership in Forest and Agricultural Landscape Initiatives. Also, WOCAN prepared a case study, Women's Leadership Outcomes within Nepal's Community Forestry Program, based on results of its application of the W+ Standard using the Leadership Domain.
Outreach and Marketing: WOCAN held various events to share knowledge about the W+ Standard, build the market demand for W+ credits and speak on gender and climate finance to international audiences. WOCAN was invited to speak at events of the Global Environment Facility Conference, New York Climate Week and the COP28 by the World Bank, African Development Bank, IETA and the GEF. This program includes fees of marketing consultant and Knowledge Management staff to prepare materials, update and maintain 2 websites, and share news with social media and monthly digests, blog posts and podcasts
