Programs

Family planning and reproductive health in west africa: this program builds on a prior grant from the william and flora hewlett foundation; its primary purpose was to engage high-level religious leaders in the drive to increase family planning uptake and promote reproductive health. This grant focuses more closely on three areas: possibilities for working with religious networks to support family health and family planning at a regional level (i.e., beyond senegal); the importance of pursuing dialogue and action at the regional level within senegal, engaging the religious leaders; and the need to address sensitivities linked to some fundamentalist muslim religious voices within senegal that actively oppose family planning.

Religions for peace: wfdd agreed to conduct a series of roundtables and write research briefs on four key topics: youth, environment, gender, and corruption.

Expenses: $30K

Bangladesh religious dimensions of development and social cohesion: this program builds on the previous bangladesh program, expanding the scope to ensure that the initiatives are deepened, sustained, and adapted, and respond to emerging challenges that bangladesh confronts. Underlying goals are to address rising tensions within bangladesh society and to situate both understanding and response in national and regional settings. Audiences include current and future policy actors from both secular and religious communities. The scope is bangladesh centered but set in a regional and international context, exploring topics with significant but often misunderstood social and religious dynamics.

Expenses: $21K

Wwsd: wfdd played a leading role in the g20 interfaith conference. In addition to being a member of the coordination unit, wfdd authored several policy briefs that were presented at the conference.

Expenses: $12K

Director project support: wfdd supports its executive director on projects that fall outside of a formal wfdd program. These projects are often related to programs that have concluded or have yet to formally begin. Activities include travel related to new grant planning and director travel for wfdd program area-related events.

Expenses: $9K

Crsd: wfdd provides technical support to crsd in senegal as it transitions from being a project partner to a main grantee.
