Mission

To reclaim time and space for holistic hupa language resurgence. We aim to cultivate intergenerational healing through reconnecting our people to one another, our language, our culture and our homelands. Our programming focuses on the continued transmission of our language to future generations and the overall wellness of our community.

Programs

2 programs

An important part of our work to create hupa language curriculum for use in our programs and for sharing with our larger community. As there have been no full-time hupa language immersion schools, we have had to almost start from scratch in creating books, songs and other curriculum for our program students and other learners in our community.

Expenses: $26K

Our annual nohk'isdiyun noho (caregiver and me) language immersion programs for babies ages 0-3 and their families help create and foster a love for our language and culture starting with the youngest in our community. These groups also serve as recruitment for our full-time immersion nest as familiesmust attend the baby groups to be considered eligible for the nest. Families learn hupa language songs, games, and other useful terms in a fun, supportive atmosphere alongside their child(ren).
