Youth development: the ymca of memphis & the mid-south believes that all children deserve the opportunity to discover who they really are and what they can achieve. Our association continues to provide before and adter care at the majority of shelby county schools. For the 2024-2025 school year, 10,256 children registered for before and after school care. There were a total of 177 schools in 14 districts for this past school year. Our y-cap program engaged 300 at-risk students in activities that promote positive self-worth, goal-setting, improved behaviors, satisfactory academic performance, community service, and summer reading. Y achievers is designed for the development of youth grades 6-12. This is one of the national ymca signature programs designed to address the achievement gap while nurturing the potential of every youth and teen. Y achievers also engages parents with monthly sessions along with family and community events. This program serves schools in shelby county. Over 70 youth were impacted by this program during the 2024-2025 school year.nutrition services: our y continues to work with tennessee department of human services and usda and have provided over 10,000,000 meals since march 2020. For the 2024-2025 school year, our y served 1,250,000 meals. A total of 202 sites including 89 schools in shelby, madison, fayette, and gibson counties. Our association also served meals at 58 school sites in davidson, montgomery, rutherford, and sumner counties and 1 school in mississippi. The ymca of memphis & the mid-south partnered to serve meals at 53 open sites in shelby county. These include memphis parks, community centers, city of memphis libraries, neighborhood christian centers, memphis athletic ministries, and apartment complexes in areas that are under-resourced and underserved. This program continues to expand to meet the needs of youth who are experiencing food insecurity.
Youth sports & summer day camp: youth involved with these ymca programs are cultivating the values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors and better health. Our youth sports and specialty camp programs led 3,929 youth to explore and improve sports skills, problem-solving abilities, and increase creativity.
Social responsibility: for the 2024-2025 school year, y on the fly served numerous communities in memphis, west tennessee, and northern mississippi, with programming that provided children and families access to meals, books, educational enrichment, and opportunities to engage in physical activities and learn about water safety. In total, over 16,000 children were impacted. Events were held at apartment complexes, community centers, public libraries, public parks, community festivals, and even holiday parades. Books were distributed at these events, along with backpacks containing school supplies, meals, and snacks.
