Healthy living - the ymca of douglas county is dedicated to positively impacting the lives of over 7,000 members by providing a wide range of programs and services, specifically tailored to enhance their physical and mental well-being. Through our diverse offering of fitness classes, we empower individuals of all ages and abilities to achieve their health and wellness goals. Our impact is evident in the improved physical fitness and overall well-being of our members. Our carefully curated fitness classes, led by qualified instructors, enable individuals to engage in various exercise modalities, such as cardio, strength training, yoga, and more. We create an inclusive and supportive environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds come together, forming lifelong friendships and stronger connections. The sense of belonging and camaraderie experienced within our ymca is invaluable, serving as a catalyst for personal growth, social interaction, and mental resilience. Our partnerships throughout the community continued to grow as we offer fitness classes to three local retirment homes for some of our most vulnerable seniors. For the whole community, we offered zumba in the park one day a week during the summer months to encourage people to get out of their homes and back into life and moving.
Social responsibility - we host our annual ymca water safety day at the ymca campus, giving away 250 life jackets, free swim lesson gift certificates, and information to parents about keeping their children safe in, on and around the water. We offer free redwoods sexual abuse prevention training to our staff. We are mandatory reporters and want our employees and volunteers to be prepared to assist when the need arises. As a leader in the "respect the water campaign", in the month of may we install five water safety stations along the rivers for the summer at popular sites in the roseburg area in support of international water safety. We maintain them through the summer months to assure the life saving ring bouys and ropes are intact for use. We were instrumental in the installation of a temperature sensor in the cold north umpqua river that provides live temperature readings that are posted on the ymca and local media websites and in the local newspaper. We also provide financial assistance to people who otherwise may not be able to afford to be a member and participate in ymca programs and services. Our licensed childcare partnered with a local community college as a practium site for their early childhood development programs. All of our child care staff are trained in child sexual abuse prevention and awareness. With grants from local foundations we were able to feed over 1,500 nourishing meals and snacks to our childcare and camp particiapants throughout the summer.
