Castanea has been organized and is operated to further charitable, educational, and other exempt purposes including (i) researching and developing solutions to protect the environment; (ii) preserving, protecting, and enhancing land in its natural, scenic, historic, agricultural, forested, or open-space condition; (iii) conserving and protecting ecologically significant lands by supporting sustainable land use; (iv) educating the public on the benefits of environmental protection, conservation, and the preservation of land and other natural resources; (v) fostering rural economic development opportunities, supporting vocational training, and providing employment to at-risk workers thereby reducing the social service burdens of government; and, (vi) investing in or making grants to enterprises that further one or more of the foregoing tax-exempt purposes.
