HOLT-SMITHSON FOUNDATION

Holt/smithson foundation ("the foundation") was established in 2015 and was granted exempt status by the internal revenue service ("the irs") effective october 14, 2015. The foundation is a nonprofit organization as described in section 501(c)(3) of the irs and is classified by the irs as a private foundation. In a letter dated june 12, 2024, the irs changed the classification to a private operating foundation effective december 31, 2023. Nancy holt and robert smithson transformed the world of art and ideas. Holt/smithson foundation develops their distinctive creative legacies. Holt and smithson recalibrated the limits of art, changing what art can be and where art can be found. Their art, writings, and ideas laid the ground work from which contemporary art has grown.
