$866KEnforcementthe federal fair housing act became law in 1968, making housing discrimination unlawful in the nation. Despite this legal protection and decades of work by mvfhc and other private fair housing organizations to educate, train persons and organizations, housing discrimination persists.mvfhc's enforcement efforts support our mission by engaging in activities to document and address unlawful housing discrimination. - intake and referrals: mvfhc receives allegations of housing disrimination and connects persons with federal, state, and local agencies for investigation. Mvfhc may also provide investigation and advocacy services. - investigations: when mvfhc has reason to believe fair housing laws are being violated, it conducts investigations to assess the situation. Mvfhc also works in collaboration with other priviate fair housing organizations to investigate potential systemic issues that extend beyond its usual service delivery area. - counteraction: in instances where mvfhc identifies discrimination, mvfhc diverts its resources to address documented discrimination through, for example, re-training, re-education campaigns, and outreach activities. - elimination and prevention: mvfhc leverages fair housing laws to eliminate discrimination it has documentated, prevent future discrimination, and provide relief to individuals and communities harmed by discrimination. - community reinvestment: mvfhc seeks to reinvest in communities harmed by discrimination, and to make neighborhoods and persons whole.in cy2024 mvfhc received allegations of or inquiries about housing discrimination from 1,029 individuals who sought mvfhc's assistance because they believed they may have experienced housing discrimination.
