Programs & Activities
Program 1
$170KAnnual housing conferences: the coalition co-hosts and facilitates the nc annual housing conference which brings together developers, lenders, advocacy organizations, service providers, housing counselors and many others to discuss best practices and the impact affordable housing has on our families, communities, and economy. The coalition also co-hosts the bringing it home conference, an annual conference for homeless service providers.
Program 2
$354KPolicy & advocacy: the coalition provides general advocacy, education and public policy development to increase access to affordable housing for low-income north carolinians. The coalition is also part of the national energy efficiency for all campaign that focuses on energy efficiency for low-income renters and the opportunity starts at home that seeks to broaden the support for housing among other sectors. The coalition is also engaged with and supports local individuals and organizations engaged in tenant organizing.
Program 3
$270KCommunity justice collaborative: the community justice collaborative (cjc) is a new triangle-region initiative incubated by the nc housing coalition. The primary purpose of the collaborative is to support and connect community-led efforts in historically black communities to prevent the displacement of long-term neighbors and to enable affordable and equitable housing development, provide ample opportunities for power building across the region. Working in and with a dozen historically black neighborhoods, the cjc will help mobilize community development strategies, real estate tools, and data analysis to further community self-determination, increase racial equity, and retain lower-income long-term black residents who have built and sustained our communities. North carolina tenants union (nctu): on march 15, 2024, the coalition (the "sponsor") entered into a fiscal sponsorship agreement with the north carolina tenants union (the "project"). Under this agreement, the sponsor provides fiscal sponsorship services, including receiving grants, tax deductible contributions, and other revenues on behalf of the project. The sponsor is also responsible for maintaining financial oversight, disbursing funds and processing payroll for the project's activities in accordance with the terms outlined in the agreement. The agreement includes an administrative fee of 6.5% of the project's gross revenue, applied to donations and grants received by the sponsor on the project's behalf. Additionally, the sponsor agrees to provide certain employee benefits and administrative support to project staff. This agreement is expected to remain in effect until the project has established and confirmed independent 501(c)3 legal status and the parties agree to termination in writing, unless sooner terminated by the parties as outlined in the agreement. General program services: in 2021, the coalition was awarded a subgrant from the nc dhhs, division of public health for developing a housing landscape analysis and working on housing policy recommendations for individuals coming out of incarceration settings and with substance abuse issues. The coalition was awarded a continuation for the program through 2024.
